How the Maryland eCare Program Works
Because ICU patient conditions can change very quickly, this system provides enhanced patient safety and improves care. Connected to patients and on-site staff by voice, video and real-time data, remote intensivists and nurses closely watch patient conditions. Minute-by-minute care instantly detects changes in patient condition, allowing remote staff to alert and work cohesively with on-site staff.
Maryland eCare’s remote monitoring center will be based at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware. Since 2005, Christiana Care has used this technology in two hospitals with a total of four ICUs. A team of Christiana Care nurses and physicians will oversee Maryland eCare’s remote monitoring center under the supervision of Dr. Marc T. Zubrow, medical director of Maryland eCare.
For patients: Maryland eCare improves care and enhances patient safety, complementing local staff and care procedures already in place.
For families: Maryland eCare allows access to high tech care from specialized physicians and nurses working together with local staff 24-7.
For physicians and nurses: Maryland eCare provides access to intensivisits off-hours. Attending physicians rest easy knowing their patients will continue to receive the quality care they’ve prescribed and nurses know they’ll have immediate access to a critical care physician should a patient’s condition change.
