ABOUT MARYLAND eCARE - Bios

Marc T. Zubrow, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.C.C.P., F.C.C.M.

Dr. Zubrow is the Director of Critical Care Medicine as well as the Medical Director for the teleICU, eCare, at Christiana Care Health Systems in Wilmington, Delaware. He did his undergraduate work at University of Pennsylvania, his medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia PA, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Lankenau Hospital also in Philadelphia. Dr. Zubrow went on to complete a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care medicine.

At Christiana Care, he has had a variety of roles and responsibilities including: Director of MICU – Christiana Hospital and Director of ICU – Wilmington Hospital. Currently, he is Director of Critical Care Medicine at Christiana Care Health System; additionally, he is Medical Director of Flexible Monitoring.

Most recently Dr. Zubrow has assumed the role of Medical Director of Maryland eCare. This innovative project will provide teleICU support to six rural hospitals in Maryland.

Other ‘teams’ under his direction include: Rapid Response Team, Sepsis Alert Team (winner of the JCAHO Codman Award), and our nationally recognized Code Blue system.

Dr. Zubrow has served as ACCP Governor for the State of Delaware as well as on a variety of committees at both local and national levels. He has been honored with several teaching awards and clinical excellence recognition as well as being listed in the “Best Doctors in America”. In January 2009, he was named by HealthLeaders Magazine, as one of their annual ‘HealthLeaders 20’: people are who meeting challenges to make healthcare better.

Thomas P. Lawrence, M.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Lawrence graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1980. He completed a Family Medicine residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1983. He developed a multi-location primary care practice in Western New York with a focus on preventative and occupational medicine. He was an Associate Clinical Professor for the SUNY at Buffalo Family Medicine Residency Program. He became the Medical Director for Occupational and Employee Health for the Millard Filmore Health System in 1996. He developed a multidisciplinary, integrated approach to work-related injuries combining, medicine, chiropractic, massage therapy, physical therapy, and acupuncture for optimal outcomes.

He completed his M.B.A. degree at St. Bonaventure University in 1997.

In January 2000, he became the Vice President, Medical Affairs for Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. Peninsula Regional is one of the top Cardiovascular Centers in the mid-Atlantic region, along with recognition in Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Bariatrics and Trauma care. His responsibilities include the oversight of the credentialing and peer review process for over 325 physicians on staff at PRMC. Additional responsibilities include management of the Peninsula Regional Medical Group, currently with eight office locations, Medical Director of Physician Utilization, the Chief Medical Information Officer, and he is the Physician Collaborator for the Village of Hope Clinic. In 2008, he became Chairman of Maryland eCare.

Anita K. Witzke, R.N., M.S.N., C.C.R.N.

Anita Witzke is Nurse Manager for eCare Tele ICU at Christiana Care Health System. She is a graduate of Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters in Science of Nursing from the University of Delaware College of Nursing.

A critical care nurse since 1986, Witzke is also currently the manager of the Flexible Monitoring (Remote Telemonitoring) at Christiana Care. Previous roles include Assistant Nurse Manager of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Staff Specialist; Critical Care RN for the MICU; and Critical Care Perdiem Nurse.

Among the many honors and awards she has received are the Christiana Care Performance Excellence Award for the Sepsis Protocol Team (2005); Performance Improvement Nursing Excellence Award for the Medical Intensive Care Unit PI team (2004) and the Nursing Excellence Award for Nursing Education (2004). Witzke was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing in 2006 and the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi in 2007.
